Isn’t that awfully spicy?

‘What goes around, comes around…’, I’ve heard it said countless times, but never really gave it much thought until recently when I witnessed an almost text book example of karma, not the spicy/sweet indian dish (although I’m partial to that too…), but the way that the when things happen, a lot of the time they seem fitting…

You may have had an experience similar to these…

Chicken KhormaSome kid in the playground stole your sweets, only to drop them in the dirt  moments later, or the lady who just sneaks to the checkout seconds before you, only to find the guy currently paying for his monthly shopping is doing so in twenty pence pieces… And we’ve all probably thought a version of, “Serves them right!”

But much like the delightful indian dish I referred to earlier, it seems that karma can be sweet as well as burning…

Turn back the clock an indeterminate number of years to find a 20-something version of me, enjoying a vibrant social life with the girl of my dreams, and a circle of friends who did likewise. Meals, parties, nightclubs, bars and all the shenanigans that that entails, normally with one poor soul having to endure the type of humour that can only be understood after the required amount of the right type of lubrication.

However we were, and still are, a fortunate group as one of our group was always happy to spend the night on soft drinks, the ‘designated driver’. He would happily put up with our inebriated larks with good humour and make sure he got us home safely (I can’t quite recall how many times) before taking himself home, presumably knowing he had done a good turn for his friends…

Jump back to the present day, and we find him now living further afield, but still willing to make his familiar offer, “Will I just pick you up on the way?”. Whenever we meet up, although the nights out are not quite so loud or late anymore, he is still happy to chauffeur us from where we are to where we’re going.

good-karmaI very recently discovered he has had some ‘luck’ after buying a raffle ticket… He won a brand new £40k BMW with a suitcase in the boot containing a further £10k in cash. Now, let me be clear on one thing, I don’t think he needs a new car (or possibly the £10k), but I’ll tell you this… He does deserve it! He one of the nicest guys I know, who even after his own share of problems, would still ask how he could help if you were in trouble!

So it seems that the universe makes a distinction between what you need & want, and what you deserve, so as you go out in the world today, think about what you can do for others that will mean you deserve better, because you might not get what you want, or even what you need, but you will most likely get what you deserve.

So I thought I should maybe call my friend to congratulate him on his ‘luck’, and perhaps we could go out for a meal to celebrate. I wonder if he likes indian food…?
